Dubai has the benefit
of a dry subtropical climate. It is located in the northern desert belt. Sun
worshippers would enjoy living here as it experiences sunshine and blue skies
all year round. In a typical day, the sun is up for 9 hours. Plants such as
ferns, palms and citrus flourish here. Climate during summer months, between
June and September, is hot. Temperatures can go up 45 degrees Celsius and higher
during daytime. Night could be colder but not that cold. Humidity levels are
very high. There are some accounts of rain fall in summer, but this is does not
occur constantly. This change in the climate is a welcome one. It decreases the
humidity experienced during this time of the year. It amounts to about only 13
centimeters in a year. That’s how infrequent rain comes to Dubai.
The summer climate of Dubai is so hot even locals tend to take long summer
vacations abroad. The sea temperature would soar to as high as 40 degrees
Celsius. Swimming pools get warm as well. Pools at the hotels are cooled to be
refreshing. This makes them favorite spots to go to in this climate. But people
tend to spend indoors during this time of the year to escape the heat. Most
buildings in Dubai have air conditioning systems. This is a big help in this
part of the world. There not much tourists during this time of the year in
Dubai. It spends tons of money on projects and infrastructure but money cannot
change its climate.
As for the rest of the year, the climate is slightly moderate. Temperature goes
to a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius in December and as high as 48 degrees Celsius
in the months of summer. The average temperature of 24 degrees Celsius can be
experienced in January.
The best time to go to Dubai is in winter. Dubai’s winter, which is usually
around October until April, the climate is relatively warmer compared to winter
in other parts of the world. During this time of the year, there are occasional
rainfalls. This makes Dubai a destination for those wanting to escape the cold
and freezing temperature. Dubai attracts tourist that comes from cold winter
climate places. Europeans flock in here to enjoy the white sand beaches and gold
courses. But mostly they go here for Dubai’s warm and hospitality.
Sometimes there are a few rare variations in Dubai’s climate. It experiences
unusual occurrences of storms and fogs. The coastal plain in the East is in
close proximity to the hilly region that causes rough and erratic wind. A sudden
change of directions of the wind could cause a squall to occur that could bring
in thunderstorms and sandstorms.
The Bedouin tribe believes that the changes in Dubai’s climate affect mortality.
They have different names for the winds in the area. Al-Barih al-owd is the
major stormy phase. Al-Barih al-sagheer is the minor one. Northwesterly winds
that occur in May are called the Al-affar. Barih Thorayya is the one in June.
And the one that happens towards the end of June is named Al-Dabaran.
The skies over Dubai are generally clear all year round. This makes it a popular
destination for astronomers as well.
Although Dubai’s climate is hot, you still have to dress appropriately as to not
insult the Muslim hosts. Ladies should refrain from wearing anything revealing.
Swimwears are allowed only in the pools and beach area. Thongs are taboo. Being
topless is also not allowed in Dubai. This is a rule for both men and women.
With Dubai’s climate, some tend to get heat stroke. Keep yourself hydrated all
the time. When walking outside, bring a bottle of water with you always.
Alcoholic drinks are available in Dubai but it is not advisable to drink it.
Heat and alcohol is not a pleasant combination at all.
